Doriana Tchakarova was born in Varna, Bulgaria, where she matriculated at a specialist school for music in 1993. Following this she began her studies at the Stuttgart School of Music at the end of 1993.
After graduating from her foundation course Doriana completed her postgraduate performance studies under Professor Friedemann Rieger in July 1998 and attended lieder study seminar classes conducted by Professor Conrad Richter. Doriana won second prize at the Dimitar Nenov, international piano competition, in Rasgrad, Bulgaria, in April 1993. In the same year she played Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra.
In July 2001 she was the prize-winner, along with the cellist Krassimira Krasteva, in the chamber music category of the 15th International Franz Schubert Competition in Italy.
